Plant theft is down for the first time in 12 years, according to a report from the National Plant and Equipment Register (TER).

In its 2007 Equipment Theft Report, TER reveals that plant theft has fallen by 18% over the last year. Excavators remain the highest value equipment items stolen, with the south-east of England the most targeted area.

TER urges companies not to be complacent. “Although this is a significant drop, plant theft is still a widespread serious organised criminal activity, often directly linked to the funding of terrorist groups,” warns TER's Tim Purbrick. “There is still a long way to go and serious issues need to be addressed.”
