Plant theft over Christmas could once again top the £1 million mark, according to the National Plant and Equipment Register (TER).

The company is warning site managers and plant owners to protect their equipment over the festive period.

‘Last year, more than £1m worth of plant and equipment was stolen from sites across the UK over Christmas and New Year,’ warns Tim Purbrick, Manager of TER.

TER currently has over £200M of stolen equipment – registered by police, insurers, banks and owners – on its database.

‘A significant proportion of this will be in circulation in the UK, being traded by dealers, sold by auctions, financed by banks, insured by insurance companies and in the possession of firms who have no legal title to it,’ he adds.

TER also has on its database more than 500,000 items of owned equipment, worth approximately £2.6 billion, which has been registered by manufacturers and owners.
