The Business Services Association is to lobby the DTI for a minister to champion the support services sector.
The association, which represents 17 of the largest support services contractors in the UK, says issues of relevance across the sector are currently dealt with in an inconsistent way.

'The work of the BSA's members is split over different sectors, and each is looked after by different government departments,' Michael Jeffries the new president of the BSA and chairman of BSA member WS Atkins told TheFB.

Issues concerning the security services sector, fall under the Home Office, while support services firms with a strong interest in contract catering will find matters relevant to them dealt with by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

'But the services issues and employment issues are common,' says Jeffries. 'The problem is that legislation is being implemented and determined in an inconsistent way.'
