Located on a pier extending out from the shore, Portsmouth Harbour railway station is constantly hit by salt water and extreme conditions, making metal components and fixtures susceptible to corrosion.

On a recent refurbishment project under Network Rail's Infrastructure Improvement Plan, the contractors had to ensure extra care was taken to protect electrical services in these exposed conditions.

To contain and protect the lighting and power cable networks, m&e contractor SEC specified and installed Mita Cabsys GRP100-6 cable trunking and Type GNL cable ladder.

Over 2000 m of the long-term, corrosion-resistant glass reinforced plastics (grp) cable trunking and ladder was supplied by WHF Wholesalers.

As well as protecting the cabling for the platform lighting and power cable networks, the Cabsys trunking carries mains wiring for ticket machines and other electrical equipment at the site.
