BIW's project information channel will be available on Asite when it launches in the summer. Alistair Mellon, director of strategy and development at Asite said: "The project information channel is one of the three collaborative tools we will be offering on Asite, and it is one of the best available on the market." The chief executive of the BIW, Colin Smith, said that its partnership with Asite was part of its long-term strategy. "Our objective is to get as many people as possible using the project information channel, and we are looking to form similar partnerships with four or five other portals, not just in the UK," he said.
The project information channel is also available on the trading exchange www.mercadium.co.uk.
Asite is at present running pilots of the project information channel on limited release to clients that are already signed up to its services, such as contractors Bovis Lend Lease and Mace. The PIC is fully integrated into the site, so there is no need to log into it separately, and it links up with other Asite services such as logistics.
