The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) goes from strength to strength.
Since its initial launch some 90 000 cards have been issued. 2003 saw the launch of the Datacommunications card, and in the spring of 2004 the ECA and NICEIC launched further extensions with a Qualified Supervisors Card.
December sees the formal launch of two new disciplines for the scheme – Emergency and Security Systems and Fire Detection and Alarm Systems, for which over 2000 ECS cards have already been issued.
The addition of these sectors is due to successful close collaboration between the ECA, the British Security Industry Association and the British Fire Protection Systems Association. Such cross-industry collaboration is at the core of ECA’s work to continue to improve the business environment for its members, and full credit must also go to the JIB, which has been so successful at extending the use of the ECS card.
Affiliated to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme, the ECS card confirms holders as having the necessary skills and safety awareness for access to Major Contractors Group sites. With its ease of use, relevance and cross-sector application, the card is the envy of the construction industry and, as such, is a shining example of what can be achieved when individual sectors work together.
