Orders for construction work in the third quarter of 2000 were 6% up on the year due to strong performance by the commercial sector.
Private commercial orders rose by 29% over the year, masking continuing falls in private industrial orders – 3% lower on the year and 7% lower in the third quarter compared with the previous three months. Public non-housing orders show a 3% rise on the year.
Total construction output in the year to the third quarter of 2000 rose by 2.5% compared to the previous four quarters.
