Smartkontrols has launched the smartEinterface. The Ethernet interface device allows communication between a SeaChange control system and a pc using the company's InSite engineering or Doorway supervisor software on any TCP/IP network. The embedded hardware module is fitted as part of the SeaChange control system and both InSite and Doorway automatically generate a site-specific picture of the control system, including all relevant graphics without the need for programming. The interface is suitable for sites where more than one point of access is required by clients and maintenance teams. Through the smartEinterface, any pc with a standard browser on the network can gain access to this control system picture without the supervisor software or graphics pages having to be installed.
2. Document management
RNM Systems has introduced Project Engine, an internet-based document management and distribution system specifically designed for facilities and construction managers. Following a meeting, say with a contractor, a project manager can distribute minutes, check that they have been read and ensure that any changes made to the document are uploaded back into the system. The manager can also monitor what other documents, such as cad drawings, have been downloaded from the system, when and by whom. The system can be tailored for different project needs and requires no special software to be loaded onto machines, its only requirement being access to the internet and the ability to use a web browser. The system can also be used as a company database, providing one source of information.
3. Thermal imaging
Flir Systems has introduced the ThermaCam E2 thermal imaging camera for thermographic troubleshooting. The infrared image shows up hot spots, revealing temperature differences caused by corrosion, leakage and ingress of damp, as well as equipment overloading or overheating, insulation breakdown or bad connections. Users can freeze the infrared image and make in-field non-contact temperature measurements at any one of 19 000 points on a single image over a range of –20°C to 250°C (optionally 900°C). The unit has a built-in 65 mm colour lcd display with 160 x 120 pixel resolution and is IP45 rated. The thermal camera can store up to 50 jpeg images, which can be recalled at any time on the display or downloaded to a pc.
4. Systems integration
Integration product specialist North Communications has developed the Commander for linking building networks to IP infrastructures. The unit has a 10BaseT Ethernet port allowing it to serve html pages directly onto IT networks for viewing by standard web browsers. Alarms from building systems can be converted to e-mails and sent using simple mail transfer protocol.
Commander connects to building systems via Compass which is compatible with over 200 proprietary building systems.
