Unparalleled storage
AD Network Video has launched a powerful version of its NetVu Vantage networked video server with a hard disk drive capacity of 480Gb, giving unparalleled image storage capacity. The NetVu Vantage now has the capacity to deliver up to 48 days of recording in 24 hour time-lapse mode or 10 days at 25 frames per second. Also with up to four JPEG codecs, a recording rate of over 80 frames per second is possible across 16 to 64 cameras, making it suitable for sites with a large number of internal and external CCTV cameras.
NetVu Vantage allows live or recorded images to be simultaneously recorded and displayed by multiple users from a single video server via LANs or WANs. An event log gives access to specific images while the DeskTop Lite software provides VCR-like controls and instant call-up of recorded images by date and time. Remote dial-up is possible via ISDN, PSTN and GSM via PPP (Point to Point Protocol) and internet browsers.
Entry level multiplexer
Baxall's new entry level multiplexer, the ZMXQ simplex multiplexer, reduces installation time by being designed to plug and play. It can automatically sense which camera inputs are physically connected and configures the unit accordingly. It also automatically synchronises with any VCR supporting a VEXT O/P, which ensures correct VCR synchronisaton, regardless of the recording speed selected.
Among the ZMXQ's other features are a record facility of 25 images per second, video loss detection, one touch freeze button during playback and Autolist to allow users to create custom sequence lists and dwell times.
Playback can be done in nine or four way, or full screen mode. The ZMXQ comes in colour and monochrome versions with a resolution of 720 x 576 TVL.
Improving intelligence
The Endusis EPoSurveillance system is a remote digital monitoring system aimed at improving business security intelligently. The sophisticated software and hardware package works to suit individual customer requirements and can be linked to a LAN, alarm system, till or any security system.
The EPoSurveillance system is programmed to operate where, when and how you need it to, and can be used either as a standalone system or with any existing CCTV system. It can also be used to upgrade analogue CCTV operations to more effective, higher quality digital functioning.
Capable of recording pre and post alarm events, the EPoSurveillance system can also send images off-site to a secure server, to ensure evidence is not tampered with.
One-box solution
TeleEye has launched its plug-and-play TeleEye III+ Video Recording Transmitter (VRT), a single box solution for remote video monitoring and recording. It is a triplex video recording system performing video viewing, recording and playback simultaneously.
Using video compression technology and powerful remote accessibility, it can achieve real time video refreshing rates up to 25/30 fps on broadband internet access, and refreshing rates on PSTN of 20fps. It can also be enabled to connect the internet through ADSL with dynamic IP address when using TeleEye's 'sureLINK' technology.
Models include 4-, 8- and 16-camera and alarm input versions. Maximum recording frame rates of 100 or 120fps across all cameras using PAL or NTSC can be achieved, and each video recording transmitter has a built-in hard drive. The unit is compatible with all major brands of speed dome cameras.
All on one channel
Sony's HSR-X200P is a one-channel recorder using M-JPEG compression and giving superb image resolution with refresh rates up to a maximum of 50fps. It has five levels of picture quality and allows horizontal resolution of more than 500 TV lines in 'Hyper' mode. Recording is given without interruption for 565 hours at 1fps in 'high' resolution mode, allowing the system to be used for unattended monitoring of a scene over a number of days. At lower frame rates, recording times can be extended to 20,000 hours, and the recorder's 80Gb storage capacity can be doubled with an optional second drive.
The disk-based recorder also allows fast, precise retrieval of any event using five different search methods to pinpoint relevant material.
Easy to install
Smaller than a mini-dome camera, the new generation Flexidome II from Philips is the latest in discreet monitoring being virtually flush mounted and protruding only 77mm into the room when mounted on ceilings or walls. Aimed at locations where aesthetics, discretion and quality are all-important, the Flexidome II cameras give 570 TVL in monochrome, and 470 TVL in colour with sensitivities of 0.5 lux and 4.5 lux. A ¼ inch CCD has been used with specially selected lenses and 2.5 inch dome, all set within a stylish housing.
Other features include a choice of 3mm or 6mm lenses, the use of DSP technology, low noise performance, power supply from 12 – 28vAC and line lock operation.
Flexibility and choice
Sanyo has launched three 520 TVL products setting the standard for digital performance singularly or as add-ons. The Sanyo DSR-3000P digital video recorder and digital MPX-CD163P and MPX-CD93P multiplexers come as separate machines giving installers flexibility to retro-fit them to installations, while adding multiplexers later.
The DSR-3000P has 80GB hard disk storage that can be doubled by adding hard drive in the extension bay. Up to three DSR-3000Ps can be installed in series, giving 480GB of hard disk storage. The unit gives simultaneous record and playback without interruption at 50fps, with five search functions and noise-free images in fast forward and rewind.
The MPX-CD163P is a 16 channel multiplexer with the MPX-CD93P version giving 9-channel capability. Four MPX-CD163P multiplexers can be connected in series giving 64-camera mini matrix display on one monitor. It has five monitor outputs, allows active recording with a built-in video motion detector and inbuilt telemetry of Sanyo domes.
Distance no object
IndigoVision has launched its Digital IP Camera as part of its VideoBridge digital network video range of products giving a complete digital surveillance and monitoring solution. The Digital IP Camera removes previous limitations, such as video only being able to be transmitted over short distances, limited viewing methods and expensive cabling.
The simple plug-and-play solution has all the functionality of a conventional high quality video camera but also integrates compression and transmission technology in the camera itself allowing it to be connected directly to an ethernet network. It allows high quality digital video and two-way audio to be recorded and highly compressed at source. This allows delivery over standard IP and ethernet-based networks without hogging bandwidth.
Night and day
Well-known CCTV brand, Vista, has launched the Vista Protos 1/3 inch day/night camera aimed at first time users. Known as the VPCMH32, the camera offers high quality round-the-clock surveillance for users who would previously have opted for either a black and white or colour model.
The camera is said to extend the technology for the budget-conscious user of CCTV. The 1/3 inch day/night camera is an extension of the Vista Standard Protos range and is based on the Hyper HAD CCD chip, which offers greater light sensitivity than the ordinary CCD chip. TVL resolution is 330 (colour) and 380 (mono) and the camera also features an IR cut filter, adjustable gamma and selectable back light compensation.
For design purposes
Coastform Systems is supplying a demonstration and development version of its ProximitySens capacitive sensor technology to enable design engineers of security products evaluate the technology and incorporate its features into a wide range of industrial and consumer products.
The package includes a ProxmitySens touch sensitive panel, control board, serial cable for connection to PC, BtnView Windows software for configuration and monitoring and technical guidance notes.
ProximitySens uses automatic self-calibration and intelligent, adaptive algorithms to produce proximity detectors with powerful sensing capabilities. The low cost package has been devised to give design engineers a hands-on demonstration of the ProximitySens technology.
Patented masterkey
Yale has introduced a selection of Euro Offset Cylinders to its patented Pro-Key masterkey system. The high security cylinders give assurance against unauthorised cutting of keys with a patented seventh high security pin that is built into the key. It has been designed to provide a high resistance to physical attack and is tested and accredited to BSEN1303 (CEN).
The full Pro-Key system comes in the most popular cylinder types and finishes. They can also be retrofitted into most cylinder lock cases.
Convex view
Microtech's Visiguard convex safety and security mirrors are said to be quick to install. Used as anti-theft devices as well as safety devices, all Microtech lenses have been silvered using a permanent process and come with a lifetime guarantee from the company.
The range includes internal and external mirrors, including optional designs for areas prone to condensation or for use in restricted spaces. The mirrors come with different levels of convexity, including some giving all-round vision. Some have also been designed for ease of installation in awkward positions, with options for flush wall mounting into false ceilings and partitions.
Changing of the keylocks
Guardian Security Group is upgrading its entire range of branded cash safes with Sargent and Greenleaf changeable keylocks. The Guard, Britannia, Eurotrader Grade 0 and Euromerchant Grade 1, which all sport standard locks, are to be fitted with the changeable keylock for added security and better value.
In future, when a key to a Guardian safe cannot be accounted for, the safe can be rapidly re-set to function with new keys as soon as lost keys are reported on Guardian's 24 hour emergency line.
In by a Wiska
Wiska has introduced the Quixx, designed to pass a number of cables through one cable entry. Said to be ideal for all applications, it is available from 16mm to 32mm in both the EMT and EMS versions.
The Quixx does away with the troublesome assembly of cable entries with threads and lock nuts. Several models are available for different cable cross sections. It is dust-proofed and splash-proofed to IP66 and works with flat cables.
Water tight
Adaptalok has developed a highly visible, yellow conduit insert enabling its flexible conduit systems to be upgraded from the standard IP66 ingress rating to IP68 ratings, and giving protection against the ingress of water to a depth of 1metre.
The non-metallic system is easy to install, with an extensive range of fittings including flame retardant, low smoke density and toxicity properties of Halogen free, low fire hazard materials. The special insert fits on the end of the conduit prior to the installation of the fitting, forming an additional seal. When the Adaptalok fitting is positioned, its internal taper closes down on the insert, forming a water tight seal and the fitting's clips close on the corrugations of the conduit to securely retain it in place.
It is suitable for use on Adaptaflex's standard weight, non-metallic Type PA/PR/PI flexible conduits in 16mm, 21mm, 28mm, 34mm, 42mm and 54mm conduit sizes. Once fitted, the insert does not appreciably reduce the cable carrying capability of the conduit.
Desktop solutions
Solutions Direct has developed a range of security products in the UK for Kensington, Acco. The range includes cable-based security solutions including Notebook MicroSaver, AnchorPoint and ComboSaver, which together with the Desktop MicroSaver, SonicLock and MemoryLock offer strong physical and visual deterrents for laptops, desktop computers, flat screens and projectors.
The three-piece Kensington Desktop MicroSaver 'daisychains' a VDU or monitor and computer casing to the wall using a steel cable that runs through anchor points and can withstand up to 750 pounds of pull. In addition, the SonicLock is a motion detecting alarm that attaches to the handle of a notebook case. It can also be attached to a notebook using the patented adaptor and Kensington FloppyLock, which slots into any size of diskdrive preventing virus infections and unauthorised access.
Completing the package, the MemoryLock protects computer hard drives by preventing the removal of the computer casing. It is also available with a steel cable for added security to protect the computer, hard drive and memory.
Backed by a battery
Electro-Replacement Ltd has improved its range of Disabled Persons Toilet Alarm systems, which comply with current regulations aimed at calling for assistance. Two new battery-backed versions have been added to the range. The standard kit comes with an alarm controller, ceiling pull switch and disabled sticker. The Deluxe kit includes an overdoor light/sounder and separate re-set point.
The modern clean design includes a facility to give a flashing or constant light and sound alarm output. To increase the flexibility in larger installations, additional ceiling pull switches, overdoor light/sounders and re-set points are also available.
Way out
The EXITi, from Hoyles Electronic Developments, is being established as the most cost-effective way guidance system available, being cheaper than hard-wired systems and more effective than photoluminescent systems. Said to be easy to install, the units are screwed onto a wall at or below dado rail height. The units house green and red flashing LEDs in a polycarbonate enclosure, and project a focussed beam of light along a corridor for escapees to follow. When fitted at 4 – 5 metre intervals, the high intensity green LEDs shine through dense smoke, said to be normally unsurvivable.
No connection is required to the EXITi's central controls or power supplies, and the system uses a microcontroller to reduce the power consumed by three AA size alkaline batteries. The batteries enable life spans of around five to six years.
Warehouse detection
Advanced Perimeter Systems' Flexiguard Warehouse protection system has been designed to out-perform other detection devices by using a new digitally controlled and technically advanced analyser. Using new sensor cables, which have an increased bandwidth and low noise, the system enables greater detection capabilities and enhanced audio verification if required.
Watford-based installer, Kings Security, which has installed the system to protect a number of warehouses, including one for a well-known national retailer, says the system is both easy to install and interfaces well with alarm control panels. He praised the system for delivering a "higher level of security so our customer can be confident that their premises are secure".
Suite extensions
IR Architectural Hardware has widened its popular Briton 200 Series range of high performance door closers. New track models with non-projecting arms have been added to complement doors that are prone to abuse. An electro-magnetic model, also with a track, is recommended for doors in medium to high traffic areas in hotels and hospitals, where traffic could be impeded by a self-closing device.
All Briton 200 Series models share a uniform styling while maintaining different levels of functionality. The new additions have also undergone successful fire tests and assessed to BS 476 Part 22 for suitability on 60-minute fire doors.
Talking fire alarm
ADT Fire and Security and Audix Systems have linked up to deliver a Public Address and Voice Alarm system that uses tone and speech to evacuate people from burning buildings. The system can be integrated into existing fire detection systems, while ADT backs up the measure with effective safety strategies.
The PA/VA system gives clear and unambiguous information on the emergency via a reassuring human voice, rather than a high-pitched alarm. This enables those leaving the building to follow the instructions given, instead of leading to panic.
The system uses CAD techniques to customise the system for each working environment. Speech messages are precise and the system can detect faults, keeping disruption to a minimum.
Digital safes
Solutions Direct has launched a range of digitally controlled safes designed with anti-tamper protection and an emergency security key opening override. They also offer a low battery warning and between two and 50 user codes.
The SafeTech digital safes include the Digi Laptop Safe, which can store a laptop and accessories. The Digi Car Safe is anchored within the boot of a car and can store laptops, mobile phones and important documents. The Digi Fire Safe offers 30 minutes fire protection from external temperatures up to 950 degrees C, the Digi Key Safe comprises a two-drawer cabinet for all office security including files and documents and the Digi Anti-Hold Up Safe has up to 50 user codes.
Sorted with shelving
Sortimo has launched a no-nonsense shelving system that aims to help installers keep track of tools and equipment in the back of vans. BIGVALUE comes in a self-assembly pack, and is made from a non-slip and abrasion-resistant safety flooring system called SOBOFLEX and two shelving units. All fittings and instructions for quick and easy installation are included, and the system requires just a modest level of DIY knowledge.
The shelving units are made from light high tensile steel and can take a load of 80kg per shelf. The lower shelves have drop down fronts giving easy access to tools and equipment. Shelves can also be adjusted to incline to accommodate plastic boxes and bins. Accessories include restraining straps, storage boxes and divider kits.
The shelving system has also been crash-tested under TÜV automotive tests.
Retractable bollard
Atlas Group has introduced a fully retractable bollard, which gives anti-ramraid and high security protection as well as traffic and parking control for industrial and commercial sites. The bollard has an operating height of 600mm, with a high-speed version offering raise and lower times of less than five seconds.
Atlas Group has used its patented 'sticky wheel' magnetic drive technology to overcome noise, bulk, and sealing difficulties associated with traditional hydraulic and electromechanical bollards. Its modular construction makes installation easy in a minimum depth excavation. Maintenance has also been minimised because of the frictionless drive system.
The bollard locks in the up position, with the drive mechanism allowing for slippage if an obstruction is encountered. An airpocket sealing system protects the motor and operating mechanism in the event of flooding and shock absorbing guide rollers ensure the bollard is not damaged if it is involved in a light impact. A manual, key operated override system is also incorporated and fail open or fail secure versions are available.
Motor-driven siren
Klaxon Signals has a range of wide-area, motor-driven sirens that provide distinctive warnings of general disasters as well as chemical or gas leaks, explosions, nuclear meltdowns and security breaches. They have sound outputs reaching 145dB at one metre and can be heard up to 3km away.
The units are weatherproofed and IP55 rated. The GP6 and S30 have 2.2kW motors, running currents of 4.5A with maximum outputs of 135dB. The GP12 and CS12 have 11kW motors, running currents of 27A and maximum outputs of 145dB.
The units can be fitted with de-icing heaters using separately-mounted weatherproof thermostats to prevent ice formation in cold weather conditions. Solenoid-operated shutter mechanisms, fitted to the heads of the sirens, are also available to provide a clearly defined and characteristic signal in conjunction with a programmed controller.
In the palm of your hand
Micotech Signalling's Flashguard MinneXE is a fully functional palm-sized sounder/strobe unit. Its new design gives it a sleek low profile appearance, with a white housing and blue backplate lens.
It has a maximum sound output of 110dB at 1m and includes SAB/SCB modes of operation with an adjustable 9/15 minute timer option. Front and back tampers are standard and the unit features a 6V NiMH serviceable battery and enclosed electronics.
A five second engineer's test link also makes installation quicker, and the sounder is compatible with all major alarm panels.
Pyramid installation adapter
Baxall has launched a serial adapter enabling its Pyramid matrix switching system to be configured via a PC or laptop and ensuring the installation and commissioning process is made simple, quick and cost-effective.
The PY2-INS installation tool connects a PC or laptop computer to the Pyramid matrix, enabling titles, sequences, alarm configurations and other matrix functions to be configured remotely, cutting out site visits for the engineer. A comprehensive record is also maintained on PC for future reference and it gives useful diagnostic information about the system. New software upgrades can also be sent over the network.
Where the network is not accessible remotely, all configurations can be carried out off site by using the upload/download feature. The PY2-INS installation tool operates on Windows 95 and 98 and requires 16Mb of RAM and 10 Mb of hard disk.
Easy to configure
Cooper B-Line has a new mechanical push-button locking system said to solve the issue of easily configurable door security. The mechanical lock joins its security range for racks and enclosures, and works in conjunction with the two point espan mechanism used on its Access enclosure range.
Installation is kept trouble-free since all doors can be set with the same code to allow installers unhindered access. After installation, it is a simple task to re-code the doors providing added security by allowing authorised personnel admission only to the areas to which they need access. The mechanical locks also eliminate the need for bulky keys, ensuring rack security is no longer an issue.
