Lone workers protected
Lone workers such as security guards placed in potentially dangerous working environments are protected with the Identicom from AME Design.
The device looks like an ID card, but communications capabilities are covertly integrated, allowing the Identicom bearer to raise an alarm discreetly as soon as danger is identified. The device allows a third party to position the user through GSM-based location technology; recording events in real time for possible use in legal prosecutions.
It is currently being trialled by the NHS and a number of other significant public and private sector employers of lone workers.

Intelligent locking
Lock manufacturer Mul-T-Lock has launched an advanced electro mechanical cylinder and padlock range which can be a dual or 'intelligent' locking system.
Mul-T-Lock Interactive CliQ is a sophisticated new technology, combining physical locking products with advanced electronics and encryption.
The company says that for the first time, customers can truly integrate physical cylinder locks and padlocks with the benefit of electronics, without having to hard wire doors and believes it "defines the future of locking solutions".
Combining high security physical locking and electronic capability provides a greater level of security and flexibility than any other key or card system, says MD Dion McAllister.
The technology does not require power in the locking products, be they door cylinders, padlocks or cam locks for cupboards. When compared to powered applications, the installation time alone is said to be a major cost saving.
The action of unlocking the door is exactly as with a normal mechanical system but unlike a normal key and cylinder, CliQ establishes secure communication between the micro-electronics in the key and the cylinder when the key is inserted.
A company can now fully control where its key holders access, and can add or remove users from a single or numerous doors without affecting any other users who have access to these areas too.
Audit trails are also available from every cylinder or padlock or each key.

Safe at home
Tunstall has added an intruder alarm function to its Lifeline 400 home monitoring unit.
The Lifeline 400 can be adapted to meet individual security requirements and up to 12 different sensors can be wirelessly connected to the Lifeline home unit using 'plug and play' technology. Sensors can detect floods, high and low temperatures, gas, smoke and carbon monoxide, and now the unit can provide increased protection by connecting to PIRs that monitor for intruders.
When activated, they send a radio signal to the Lifeline 400, which then raises a silent intruder alarm call to the 24-hour response centre. The response centre operators can listen in to the house through the home unit's microphone to obtain audible confirmation that a burglary is in progress, while also recording any speech between intruders.
The Lifeline 400 with intruder functionality can be armed and disarmed using a PIN number or with a personal radio trigger and Away Key.

Access control
System has no need for keys BearBox has developed BearLock, the industry's "first web-hosted, GSM based access control system".
The wireless unit can be installed on any door to allow controlled access with the security of unique PIN codes and recorded entry. The PINs are managed remotely (over the web) and can be made unique to a person, a business, a specific time or for a one-off use.
Each BearLock contains its own GSM (mobile phone) modem which is in constant communication with BearBox's central server at a management centre. Records of each PIN are transmitted to the centre so that real time monitoring is available online.
BearLocks are aimed at companies that need to monitor and control access to multiple locations across the country. It can be used for applications such as delivery areas, street cabinets, stock rooms, cash rooms, computer rooms and school staff rooms. With no need for keys, anyone can be given or denied access in real time, and access can be monitored centrally over multiple sites.
With no expensive network cabling required or local networked hub, the BearLock is said to be considerably less expensive than comparable access control systems.

Magstripe and prox in one
HID has announced a new access control solution for customers who require support for both magnetic stripe and proximity card technologies: Dorado 230 and 240.
Combination/Transition card readers are compatible with standard ABA/ANSI/ISO and EMPI magnetic stripe cards as well as HID and EMPI proximity card formats.
The dual technology readers provide a migration path from magnetic stripe to proximity-based access control by combining both technologies into a single reader. Readers are designed to meet users' needs for card readers that read both magnetic stripe and HID proximity cards.
Many organisations are advancing their levels of security for permanent staff and employees with proximity but also have the desire to issue magnetic stripe cards to large temporary or high turnover employees, long-duration visitors, and contractors.
Hospitals, manufacturing plants and warehousing facilities working with a mix of magnetic stripe and proximity cards now have one reader to address all requirements, said Denis Hébert, president of HID.

Excellent focused zones
Pyronix has launched the KX15DQ, 15m Digital Quad Detector said to combine innovative features with the company's tried and tested technologies.
It has on-board selectable resistor values of 5K6, 4K7, 2K2 and 1K catering for most control panels on the market, eliminating the need for separate resistors – simply move the header links supplied to the resistor values required.
The KX15DQ also has the flexibility to still be wired as conventional normally closed loops. The distance between the pyro-electric sensor and the lens is identical for each detection zone lens. This eliminates distortion and is said to provide excellent focused zones. By having a solid state relay that can be selected as normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC), the KX15DQ is the natural choice for those seeking a high quality PIR for applications such as switching CCTV cameras etc.
Both wall and ceiling tamper proof brackets are supplied.
The KX Series complies with EN50131-1 Security Grade 2 Environmental Class 2.

Security views over mobiles
Trans Visual Media Ltd has launched a visual security system using remote wire-free observation cameras to transmit images over the mobile network through a secure picture messaging service.
Images are delivered within 40 seconds at a cost of 1p per image.
Birmingham-based TVM, specialists in developing applications for converging mobile communication and Internet technologies, says the technology is now being assessed by a number of police forces and individual businesses.
Applications range from real time crime detection to vending machine compliance.
Based on Nokia's compact observation camera, which incorporates infra-red sensing and night vision, the heart of the TVM Visual Security solution is a new Multimedia Messaging Service Centre and a 'Visual Intelligence' database, both created by the company to provide high integrity image transfer and enable intruder alert messages to be sent by SMS, e-mail and GPRS picture messaging.
Once the alert has been received, showing the crime or event in progress, the images can then be viewed through a secure website or accessed by picture messaging mobile handsets, so that action can be taken promptly.

Virtually pick proof
The new mechanism is said to offer an unrivalled combination of pick resistance, physical strength and key control.
Medeco³ cylinder mechanism is based on pin tumblers that must be elevated to the correct level by cuts or bittings on the key.
Medeco Security Locks has made significant advances in this area with the development of its offset, chisel tipped pins which must be rotated exactly by unique angled cuts on the key so that the second locking element within the Medeco³ cylinder, the sidebar, can move inwards.
Medeco³ also incorporates a new slider mechanism, which interacts with the new side bitting on the key and the sidebar to give the cylinder mechanism a third point of locking, making it virtually pick proof.
