Access control
Saving electricity
The IXP400 is Impro’s flagship proximity access control software suite, able to accommodate up to 3,000 doors and 160,000 users per site, and up to 256 sites per system.
Added features include the ability to turn electricity on or off to specific appliances or areas, saving power costs.
This is achieved through using zone counting, using sensors or long range readers, or through ‘reason’ codes to activate or deactivate power supplies.
The system is scaleable in design, enabling single users to start with one PC and expand to accommodate multiple remote users on LAN and WAN configurations. Connections can be made using TCP/IP connectivity, utilising existing network structures.

Anti-ligature system
Mul-T-Lock UK has launched a new model anti-ligature locking system, featuring a re-designed thumbturn to maximise ease of use.
The system was designed specifically for use in psychiatric and probationary facilities, where traditional door locks and handles may pose a risk of self-harm. The system allows instant access for medical or supervisory staff, while also giving the occupant privacy.
The anti-ligature system also features an emergency key which can be used to override the thumbturn system in emergencies. The combination change option allows locks to be immediately re-coded in the event of a lost key.

Designer-friendly detectors
Fire Detection Products has announced further enhancements to its recently certified Aurora detection range with the introduction of the Décor Line.
The company says there is often pressure from interior designers and architects to minimise the visual impact of detection systems, to the extent of sometimes demanding expensive concealed solutions.
The new Aurora Décor Line offers a cost-effective alternative by employing new digitised surface finishing techniques to reproduce an exact match between the detector housing and the ceiling - even if it is textured wood or marble.
No major volume commitments are required and the process can be originated based upon good quality photographs of the surface to be matched.

Getting smart
Euronova Ltd has unveiled its portable SmartPatrol system, which enables police, guards or control centres to monitor a number of buildings at once.
Equipped with a large range of sensor types, SmartPatrol can detect intruders, burglars or squatters at over a dozen premises (within a 200m radius) and communicate immediately using GSM technology.
Based on the company’s museum security systems, Euronova says SmartPatrol is robust and reliable, and can help hard-pressed organisations provide cost-effective part-time or 24/7 coverage in high crime areas.

Picture cleaning
Dmist Technologies Ltd – a spin out company from Manchester University – has launched its new product, ClearVue, which recovers picture quality from video images degraded by adverse weather conditions.
The system automatically corrects video streams which have been subject to environmental effects such as mist, fog, or spray, restoring the original image clarity and colour fidelity. It uses a similar process for video taken in low light conditions.
The technology operates in real-time as the video is being captured, or can be applied to pre-recorded material.

New Bosch DVR
Bosch’s DVR1C digital video recorder has disk space of 160GB, allowing for continuous or time-lapse recording for over a week.
Simple front panel controls make it straightforward to navigate through the menu, select options and view images, Bosch says. For greater flexibility in viewing, storing and sharing, files can be exported to a Compact Flash card then exported to PC.
The unit can be connected to multiple cameras via a multiplexer, and recording can be triggered by an alarm.
Remote viewing using a standard web browser across LAN or WAN or via the internet is also possible.

Swift and wire free
Petards says its Swift OFDM-Pro (Coefficient of Orthagonal Frequency Divisional Multiplex) provides the ability to transmit video signal from camera to base station without many of the inherent problems of the traditional transmission methods currently used.
The Swift OFDM-Pro utilises digital modulation techniques to deliver crisp, stable and detailed pictures without the requirement for line-of-sight radio transmission paths.
It is suitable for sites which are typically difficult areas for the use of radio transmission, such as airports, industrial sites, city centres and tunnels.

Sanyo’s new DVR
Sanyo has introduced the DSR-3716P 520 TV lines DVR to its range.
The DVR has 16 camera inputs, provides simultaneous recording and playback at 25 frames a second, and has a built-in LAN terminal to provide telemetry control of PTZ/Zoom cameras on a network.
The LAN terminal enables remote control of the DVR through any PC on a network without the need for special software, meaning live images can be viewed, recorded video can be played back or images can be downloaded.
Two internal HDD bays can each offer up to 400Gb of storage while the recorded images can either be backed-up onto CD-R/RW discs via USB terminals, or onto a Compact flash or Microdrive via a CF Type II expansion slot.
The DVR is also available in a nine-channel version (DSR-3709P).

Lunar lands
Rokonet has launched its new ceiling mount detector, the Industrial Lunar.
It can be installed up to 8.6m high and includes Rokonet’s Anti-Cloak Technology, which addresses the issue of impaired PIR detection caused by higher temperatures, together with Intelligent Digital Signal Processing (IDSP).
Rokonet says the Industrial Lunar is suitable for many high ceiling applications such as warehouses, factories, department stores, public buildings, libraries, colleges and universities, or financial institutions.
It offers a number of options for advanced remote control and diagnostics, and a bi-directional remote control allows the installer to perform adjustments and checks without climbing ladders.

Spyder released
Elmdene has introduced its high specification Spyder shock sensor, designed to meet the requirements for installation under the new European intruder alarms standard (EN 50131 and PD 6662).
The solid state shock sensor incorporates digital signal processing technology and uses a specially derived algorithm to minimise false activations.
Operating modes include fully adjustable sensitivity over two ranges, set/unset, latch, discreet mode, and sustain mode.
Multiple units can be combined in an array to provide protection for large areas, and using the Spyder’s multi-synchronisation feature, units with their alarm outputs connected in series can be configured to indicate the first unit to detect an alarm event.

Smart PIR
Bosch has introduced what it claims is the world’s smartest outdoor PIR intruder detector. The new Bosch OD850 is the latest in the TriTech detector family and uses a combination of infra-red and microwave detection technologies, as well as smart filtering, for more accurate detection with fewer false alarms.
It features a 50ft by 50ft range, and is designed for protecting large detection areas.
These can include such spaces as building perimeters, storage areas, car parks, loading and despatch areas, fenced areas etc.
Installers can customise the security level using ‘And/Or’ selection. The ‘And’ mode is useful for areas with a high risk of false alarms, with confirmation by both the PIR and microwave sensors. In ‘Or’ mode, the alarm is triggered when either the PIR or microwave sensors are activated.
A single person walk-test allows installers to check coverage without complicated procedures.
