Access control
Entro upgraded
Bewator has launched the Entro 5, the next generation of its popular Entro access control system.
Entro 5 offers a number of new functionalities. a key feature is the segment controller, which has been redesigned to operate as a stand-alone system, without needing to connect to a PC. Bewator says this makes the controller less vulnerable to tampering, and simplifies system servicing and extensions.
Other improvements include door controllers, which have been updated to include an integrated status display, simplifying maintenance and fault finding, and making installation and operation of the system much easier.
Other new features include a built-in two-port switch and integrated web server in the segment controller, making networking easier; the support of dynamic IP addresses (DHCP); multiple user database; upgrade of software in the door controllers directly from PC; extended event buffer as well as automatic back-up of events; increased database capacity; and intelligent alarm control.

Thermal access control
The IRS 2100 Tailgate Detector uses Irisys' thermal imaging technology to offer an increase in security for controlled doors, helping prevent unauthorised access, countering walk-in theft or enforcing the requirement for all employees to use their card for roll-call, audit and safety purposes.
“It achieves very high count accuracy and low false alarms and, though its use of thermal imaging, operates irrespective of lighting conditions,” Irisys says. “The discrete ceiling moulded unit 'looks' down at the doorway to detect and count multiple people, even when walking side-by-side or crossing at the entrance, giving it significant advantage over infrared beam-based systems and allowing its use on double doors

Facial recognition
A new facial recognition access control reader from US-based RF Logics is now available for the first time in the UK, through Sabre Access plc.
“The facial recognition reader makes biometric technology a cost-effective and easy to install option for conventional access control systems and is part of RF Logics' extensive range of high security proximity, smart card and biometric readers for access control applications,” Sabre says. The self-contained reader can store up to 10,000 facial templates and is supplied with a built-in proximity or smart card reader.
It can be mounted at the door in the same way as other types of biometric reader, and incorporates a high-resolution camera and a speaker output, which allows the user to receive audio instructions, and the unit has a backlit 16 key keypad and LCD display.
Two readers are available - the FACE 006, an on-line reader designed to be integrated with any access system, and the FACE 007, a stand-alone version.

Going wireless
Mobile radio solutions specialist PMR Products has formed a strategic alliance with Colorado-based Inovonics Wireless Corporation, under which it will incorporate Inovonics' wireless technology into its own range of mobile radio equipment.
PMR says the new wireless products will be particularly appropriate for its remote alarm systems, acting as an alternative to its standard hard wired systems.
“In this way, PMR Products' remote alarm systems, which provide personal and property protection over radio, telephone and GSM, have the added benefit of localised wireless connection to its range of peripherals and sensors, providing a completely wireless solution and a saving on installation costs,” the company says.

New PVD from NVT
NVT has announced a new range of PVD – or power, video and data – products, designed to offer a 'single cable' solution for CCTV camera system installations.
With low voltage power, video and data combined using NVT's NV-218A-PVD transmitter at the camera end – utilising a single CAT5e or better cable and industry-standard RJ-45 connectors – the camera's signals are fed into a four or 16 channel NVT cable integrator (NV-704/716J-PVD) for simple, fast integration.
With the cable integrator installed adjacent to a single power supply, the input is fed through the 'multi-functional interface' to seamlessly supply low cost 'up the cable power'. Finally, the control and video signals from the camera are brought back to the control room via the single cable – up to a maximum distance of 1km – to be fed into a NVT RJ-45 input receiver hub (NV-862/1662/3262J).
