Access Control

Got the Sure Touch

Technology developed to remotely open car doors is being offered by Worcestershire-based Sentico to make it easier for people who are disabled, elderly or infirm to open the doors of their homes. Sentico MD David Ogden says: "The Locca Sure-Touch System is designed to support independent living, ensuring that users feel confident entering and leaving their properties and allowing them the comfort of letting in friends, family and carers without leaving their seat or having to hunt for keys."

The Locca Sure-Touch system comprises two elements. The first is the ergonomic remote key, with attachable straps for wrist or neck, which sends a secure 1 in 4 billion encrypted code signal, that changes with every press. This can be sent a distance of up to 50m to the second element, the Locca Receiver which decodes the signal, releasing the door.

PipeDart dream

Dart Systems has introduced the PipeDart, designed for larger cable installation projects such as multi-storey office complexes, shopping malls, or industrial units where longer cable runs are the norm.

"The PipeDart provides the solution where the traditional rods and tapes are just not long enough, but saves having to carry the heavier duty Flex Rods associated with external cable pulling," the company says.

Its cable installation rods feature 4.5mm diameter fibreglass rods sheathed with polypropylene for durability and wear resistance and are specifically constructed to provide exceptionally high tensile strength while retaining flexibility. The rods are wound on a lightweight, tubular steel frame for easy handling, and the steel cage can be separated from the frame to allow for ease of handling and storage. The PipeDart is available in 50m and 80m lengths.

A Nifty idea

PJ Allen Sales and Services has launched the Nifty Nipper, an ultra-compact vehicle-mounted work platform. It combines a Nifty boom arm with the Piaggio Porter, one of the smallest vans on the market.

"The real beauty of the machine is that it is so narrow," the company says. "Unlike trailer-mounted work platforms, the Nifty Nipper is easy to set up and works within its own confines. The hydraulic stabilisers descend vertically to the ground at the press of a lever, and even when fully extended, never go beyond the width of the vehicle. A 9.5m working height is possible."

The articulated boom arm can rotate 360 degrees and carry a single person or a load of up to 120kg. Maximum outreach is 3.5m. "Virtually anyone with a normal drivers licence can both drive and operate the machine with very little difficulty," PJ Allen says.

All new from Taylor

The Taylor Lock Company has introduced the T500 Electric Mortice Lock, which will throw or withdraw a 20mm deadbolt using an electrically controlled operation with manual key override.

Taylor says this makes it "the first mortice lock to combine access control and security in a single device".

It features a mechanical key that uses a European Standard 17mm profile cylinder, with a 60mm backset, and it also has a new electro-mechanical control system. The electronics are securely fitted within the lock case, removing vulnerability to tampering and vandalism common in conventional door control systems, Taylor says.

The Door Interface Unit connects the lock to virtually any existing access control system. In the event of loss of power, security is not compromised, as the electrical operation of the lock will be disabled but manual key operation will not be affected.
