The Chartered Institute of Building has launched the third edition of the Code of practice for project management. The book is intended to provide clients and other members of the project team with a definitive strategy for the management and co-ordination of any project. Substantially revised since the 1996 edition, the code reflects the changes in practices initiated through the Latham, Egan and other reports.
The Code is divided into two sections: the first covers eight stages associated with projects from inception to completion; the second contains a project handbook with guidance material and checklists. The Code is structured to reflect the project management process itself, with headings of inception, feasibility, strategy, pre-construction, construction, engineering services commissioning, completion, handover and occupation, and post completion review/project close-out. Each chapter deals with a specific stage of project management and is supported by specimen forms, checklists and examples of typical documents. The book will also help a project manager define and recommend the appropriate form of contract to meet the client's requirements.
