Proving your worth with database intelligence

How much easier our task might be if we could accurately demonstrate our department’s worth to the firm. Consider if, through quantified data, we could document our effectiveness, indicate the benefits that security has brought to the organisation, and perhaps even highlight where money has been saved thus contributing to the bottom line.

To achieve these goals requires information, preferably in a form which can be demonstrated at a budget or board meeting, which is where a programme such as IRIMS (Incident Reporting and Information Management System) comes into effect. IRMS is a PC based security management system which can assist in all of the above objectives. Version 5.0 of IRMS has just been released, which includes a host of additional features, and I was recently granted privileged access.

In a change to previous versions IRIMS is now available in three levels: Gold - having the full system features, with Silver and Bronze offering lower degrees of functionality.

The full system offers tools to perform: Incident Management, Investigation Management and Analysis & Reporting. There is also a Supporting Information function which contains items such as training logs, personnel files, site data, response procedures and company information.

Like any computer arrangement it’s a case of “rubbish in rubbish out”, but I can report that this system is very user friendly, very flexible and at the gold level contains all the features you could require in this type of programme. To the security manager of a frequent incident site, a shopping centre for example, the system would be invaluable.
