A survey has found that only 6% of the public have heard about Part P of the Building Regulations and how it applies to domestic installations.
David Pollock, ECA director, says: “Each year there are ten deaths and 750 serious injuries due to unsafe electrical installations in the home. Public understanding of Part P needs to be much better if these figures are to be improved.”
When made aware of Part P, the public welcomed the regulation: 54% felt it would deter cowboy traders; 75% thought that contractors would want to be registered; and 57% said that in future they would ask to see a certificate of accreditation.
