A new organisation has been launched to procure greater funds for research into the construction industry.
The National Technology Platform for the Built Environment will provide a vehicle to bid for European and UK research money for research and development in construction. “The mission of the UK NTP is to support the creation of a competitive, innovative and technology-led construction sector fit for the 21st century,” said Bob White, chairman of CRISP, a body promoting research and innovation into the construction industry. “By getting the industry to unify and foster a collaborative, knowledge-based research driven approach, we will sustain a first class industry.”
Among the NTP’s objectives are establishing a strategic research and innovation agenda; defining future training and resource needs; supporting innovative procurement methods; and supporting the adoption of best practice and benchmarking industry improvements.
