Ravenscraig reborn: North Lanarkshire council has granted planning permission for the £8bn redevelopment of the former Ravenscraig steelworks site. The number of homes to be provided and the proportion of social housing is yet to be decided. The council expects work to start later this year. The finished project will include starter homes, a new town centre and retail and industrial units. The regeneration will bring with it an expected 12,000 new jobs and £1bn of new investment to the area.
