Local government minister Nick Raynsford aims to amend the present “incomprehensible” formulae by which English councils are allocated annual budgets.
Although the proposals are expected to favour northern councils over those in the south, the Association of London Government has welcomed the move as a sign that the government has listened to its calls for deprivation to be taken into account when drawing up financing options.
