Security Installer readers who attended our Security Roadshow at Sandown Park heard free advice on the new European Standards for intruder alarms from Alex Carmichael, the Technical Director of the BSIA.
Carmichael gave three informal seminar sessions for installers during the day in which he outlined the main points of the standards, due to be implemented by October 1 and answered questions. He concentrated on the most important aspects of EN 50131-1 for installers and the all-important document PD6662, which is the "key" to implementing the Euro standards in the UK.
Similar free informal mini sessions are planned when the next Security Roadshow is staged in Murrayfield, Edinburgh on June 14. Watch for details in the next issue of Security Installer.
- Privately-provided workshop training session on the standards are being held throughout the UK in the build-up to October 1.
Aimed at engineers and surveyors, the sessions are being held by ECS Ltd and Independent Risk Assessment Consultancy and are supported by BT redcare. The purpose and benefits of the workshops are to ensure intruder alarm company staff and other specifiers – such as consultants, police, architects, brokers, insurance risk advisors or surveyors – are equipped to take full advantage of the new European Standards which come into effect later this year. They aim to provide personnel involved with intruder alarm systems with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the requirements imposed by the new standards.
Covered are Risk Assessment, System Design Proposals, and System Design Installation and Maintenance. Two kinds of workshops are being provided. Both workshops will cover the fundamental aspects as above but each will be tailored to meet the appropriate needs of either installers and maintenance staff or sales, surveyors and specifiers .
