Mott MacDonald is acting as project manager on a new landmark bridge planned for the East of England dubbed the “Bridge of Reeds”.ear Cambridge, will be 50 metres high and includes three masts from which the deck is suspended. The design, created by LDA Design, was inspired by the shapes of wind-blown reeds. The team has carried out a feasibility study for the bridge which was backed last month by the East of England Development Agency. The scheme is one of four that won the development agency’s Landmark East competition, originally launched in late 2003. Don Hutchinson, who is leading Mott MacDonald’s project management on the scheme, said: “The bridge will provide a stunning focus for civic pride in our region and the overall project will bring many valuable social and environmental benefits to a wide range of people.” The competition was also backed by the National Trust and an economic development body called the Greater Cambridge Partnership.
