I find the disparity of rents in different parts of the country worrying, particularly as the introduction of a flat-rate rent is now taking off (“Housing Corporation to scrutinise inflated rents”, 23 July, page 9).
It won’t be fair on the tenants as most of them will find themselves in square one, unable to sustain their tenancy and often resulting in them being homeless.
I urge the Office of Fair Trading to look into the situation and rectify the rents charged by some unscrupulous RSLs. The poverty gap will widen if appropriate measures are not put in place.
