The first residential development in Ancoats Urban Village, Manchester, will be a joint venture between Gleeson City Living and Persimmon Homes.
Genesis Estates (Manchester) was formed to build the 92 one and two-bed apartments. There will also be 1537 m2 of commercial space. Because of the listed status of many of Ancoats' existing industrial buildings, Genesis and architect Axis Architecture Design Management have had to work closely with English Heritage on the design of the modern scheme. "Like the mills, it's a robust building and it shares the rhythm and pattern of the buildings next door," said Suzie Dickens, development manager at Gleeson City Living. The brick facade of the steel-frame structure ties in with neighbouring materials. Due for completion in August 2002, it will be one of the first schemes in Ancoats Urban Village, masterplanned by Chapman Robinson and EDAW.
