I was disappointed to see Housing Today perpetuating the myth that council homes are taken from people who have been on the waiting list for years by asylum seekers. Asylum seekers have not been entitled to council accommodation since 1996. They only become entitled to council housing on being granted refugee status, and would be subject to the same homeless procedure as any other homeless person or family.
