New construction orders rose 3% in the 12 months to June 2002.
This is despite an 18% drop in the second quarter of the year which was largely put down to a return to relatively normal orders in the infrastructure sector which were exceptionally high earlier in the year.

Public non-housing orders (excluding infrastructure) in the 12 months to June 2002 were up 19% compared to the previous year although orders in the second quarter of 2002 were down 3%. In the private commercial sector orders saw a 1% rise in the year on the previous year although there was a similar drop in the second quarter of 2%.

The private industrial sector didn't fair particularly well over the 12 months to June 2002 with a fall of 16%. Although figures showed a 3% rise in the second quarter of 2002 compared with the previous period this is a massive 23% lowered than the same period last year.

Infrastructure orders to June 2002 were unchanged compared with the previous 12 months.
