The Electrical Safety Council (ESC) has produced its first leaflet for contractors, focusing on electrical safety on construction sites.

The Electrical Safety in Construction leaflet is a summary guide for the construction industry on safe isolation practices and aims to remind contractors of their legal responsibilities in relation to safe electrical working practices on sites.

Following a number of deaths and major accidents involving electricians, installers are under increased pressure to fully comply with statutory health and safety duties.

The pamphlet helps remind contractors of the requirements for a safe working environment and what circumstances allow them to energise circuits for use by others before installation work is complete.

Phil Buckle, director of the ESC, says: “We want this leaflet to be a useful way for contractors to help communicate safe working practices to others on construction sites.”

The leaflet is part of a wider campaign planned by the ESC to raise awarenes of crucial safety issues within the industry, which will ultimately reduce the number of fatalities and injuries.

Copies of the Electrical Safety in Construction leaflet can currently be downloaded from the ESC’s website: www.electricalsafetycouncil.org.uk.
