Messages on the Climate Change Levy, education and information technology were delivered to over 850 people attending the Institution's annual dinner in February.
The challenges of the Climate Change Levy were just one of the topics covered by speakers at the event. Dr David Fisk, Chief Scientist at the DETR congratulated the Institution for its support of the government's environmental policies.

Dr Fisk (right) said that future challenges are not just about technical issues. "Engineering is more and more and more about people...yet we seemed to have sold the engineering profession to young people as nerdish" he said.

"All the engineering institutions together with the Engineering Council will need...to get the message of a career in engineering corrected, attracting new entrants to the profession".

Fisk also highlighted the importance of information technology as a tool in the engineer's armoury, for design, simulation and communication.

CIBSE President David Wood focused on the Institution's achievements throughout 2000. He drew attention to the increase in CIBSE membership, investment in information technology and new publications.
