Consortium gets preferred bidder status for 25-year, £21m schools contract
The Keystage Education Consortium has been chosen as preferred bidder for the Nottinghamshire County Council's schools PFI scheme.

The consortium, which comprises Alfred McAlpine, NIB Capital Bank and MITIE, will redevelop and maintain two schools and leisure facilities in East Leake.

MITIE will provide catering, cleaning, maintenance and security at Harry Carlton Comprehensive and Lantern Lane primary school over the 25-year contract, which has an estimated total value of £21m. The construction element of the contract is worth about £14m.

Keystage has designed a replacement school for Harry Carlton on part of its existing playing fields — the land the school currently occupies will be released for development. The consortium also plans to substantially rebuild Lantern Lane primary school.

The new Harry Carlton school will take 1,000 secondary pupils aged 11-16 and 230 sixth form students. Lantern Lane will take 270 pupils and 40 nursery places.

Nottinghamshire council plans to sign the contract by the end of the year, with work beginning early next year. The schools are due for completion in April 2003.
