Scotland’s one black and minority-ethnic housing association has been saved from collapse by pledges of funding and new stock.
Access Apna Ghar, launched in March 2002, needs £40,000-£60,000 to work up a business plan and become a registered association (HT 27 February, page 13).

It is still in talks with Communities Scotland but is now confident of securing some or all of the money. And other associations have responded to Access’ calls for stock transfers, which it needs to build up its business.

Six registered social landlords, including Glasgow Housing Association, the UK’s biggest RSL, are in talks to transfer “double-digit” numbers of homes to Access Apna Ghar.

Dave Le Sage, director of Access, said: “In some parts of Glasgow, demand has fallen through the floor, but we’ll work with a new client group and might be able to market some of the house types.”
