The certificate is proof-positive that the University’s manned security services – including alarm monitoring and response, guard control systems, keyholding and uniformed mobile and static guards – meet the requirements laid down in BS 7499 and BS 7858, with CCTV management to BS 7958 standards.
Importantly, it should enhance still further the close working relationship already enjoyed by the University and Thames Valley Police.
Ben Simpson – development officer at Oxford University’s Wolfson College – told SMT: “The certificate of inspection is an important step forward for us. It’s a good indication of our pro-active approach to security.”
Richard Hartley, the University Marshal, added: “This marks an important stepping stone in the University’s plans to harness the terms of the Private Security Industry Act. It will prepare us for the time when security services like ours will be able to operate in a wider marketplace.”
