Each year the CIOB and the Worshipful Company of Constructors get together to award a £2,000 grant to a scholar to spend a year researching a topic of importance to the construction industry.
Anyone interested must be nominated by their employer and have attended a CIOB-accredited course.

As well as a year to do the research, the scholar then gets three months to write an 8/10,000-word report. The research is undertaken partly in work time and the sponsoring company appoints a mentor. Three-monthly progress meetings with the CIOB and Worshipful Company help to keep the researcher on track.

Previous topics include the use of IT in innovation, best value, and how companies dispose of waste in practice rather than in theory.

Any topic is eligible so long as it is of interest and benefit to the scholar, their employer and the construction industry.
