Seven key bodies have agreed an election agenda that urges all political parties to commit to provide support and investment for the UK building sector.

The SEC Group, along with the Plumbing and Heating Industry Alliance, Construction Products Association and others are pushing for support on six key provisions:

  • a strong and influential voice for the whole construction industry with close interdepartmental co-ordination on cost cutting issues;
  • sustained investment in public services and infrastructure and a procurement strategy that focuses on best value;
  • a reduction in the amount of red tape and independent regulatory impact assessments for all new and revised legislation;
  • sustainable development policies which recognise the needs as well as the responsibilities of the industry;
  • incentives for householders to improve energy efficiency;
  • an improved planning system.

Other partners include the Construction Industry Council, Federation of Master Builders, National Specialist Contractors Council and the National Home Improvement Council.
