Scottish electrical contracting body sponsors RIAS bookshop

Select, Scotland’s trade association for the electrical contracting industry, and RIAS, the Royal Incorporation of Architects have struck up a partnership which will see Select entering into a three-year sponsorship of the RIAS bookshop at its headquarters in Edinburgh.

The specialist bookshop, at 15 Rutland Square, is a centre of architectural excellence which offers the country’s widest range of architecture books, technical documents and building contracts. The RIAS have just completed an extensive refurbishment of the bookshop, which has one of the highest footfalls among design professionals of any institution of its kind.

Select president Alick Smith said: “We are delighted to be able to build on the partnership between the electrotechnical industry and the architectural profession. This sponsorship allows us to disseminate information about our members to them and vice versa.”

The arrangement will have provision for Select literature and information to be made available to architects in order to keep them up to date with technical and safety issues in a fast-moving industry. Select members will also benefit from information about current and future directions in the built environment.

David Dunbar, RIAS president, commented: “This kind of co-operation illustrates the kind of open and innovative thinking which is driving the construction industry forward in a challenging environment

“Architects and electrotechnical specialists are increasingly aware that co-ordination and discussion in the early stages of a contract can create not only a more fit-for-purpose end product but also highlight and implement significant cost savings along the way.”
