Record membership levels for Scottish electrical contracting trade association

Select, the trade association for electrical contractors in Scotland, has reported its most successful year in over a century.

Membership is at an all time high with over 1150 firms now represented. And during the year, almost 5000 delegates were trained, up 78% on the numbers for 2007.

Select also enjoyed a record year for Modern Apprentices with almost 1000 new recruits, although the associated noted that this level of interest and industry support has been difficult to maintain in the present economic environment.

Newell McGuiness, managing director at Select, said: “Although 2009 is proving to be a difficult year, we believe the position of strength we reached in 2008 will stand us in good stead and help us represent the needs of our members at a time when they most need our help.

“The more professional we are as an industry, the better placed we will be to withstand economic and commercial downturns both now and in the future.”
