September’s Manager of the Month competition proved so tight that it actually ended in a tie, and both managers won a weekend break for two
The battle between managers in the Pilkington Fantasy Football competition continues to be a titanic tactical struggle. The struggle to take the crown of September’s Manager of the Month proved so tight that it actually ended in a tie.
Two teams ended up with the same amount of points. Pallot’s Plonkers and the Hogsters both scored a mightily impressive 163. Both managers have walked off with the inaugural Manager of the Month trophy and the prize of a weekend break for two at a Marriot Hotel.
Paul Bourke is behind Pallot’s Plonkers triumph and he is a director at Pallot Windows in Jersey. The company supplies and installs windows and curtain walling systems for both domestic and commercial purposes. A Manchester United fan, Paul ignored his red roots to sign a number of Chelsea players and has Alan Curbishly of Charlton at the helm of his team.
Paul attributes his success to good solid research, a commitment to the game and above all, an addiction to Sky Sports News. Paul comments: ‘Watching a steady stream of football news on the television has kept me updated on player injuries and form and the competition proves that watching football has tangible benefits. The prize enables me to treat my wife to a lovely weekend away, which has strengthened my position when it comes to taking ownership of the remote control!’
The Hogsters have risen to the top under the shrewd stewardship of Mrs Nita Hogg, a senior administrator who works for Pilkington at its R&D facility in Lathom, Lancs. Nita comments: ‘When I first heard about the game I couldn’t wait to get started. I picked my team and was mulling it over when my son happened to walk by and wondered what I was doing. I’ve got to be honest he thought I’d chosen a couple of donkeys and suggested I’d do some last minute tinkering. To my delight it paid off. Perhaps I’ve got a Junior Mourinho on my hands.’
Both Paul and Nita have benefited from a healthy smattering of Chelsea players. John Terry and Frank Lampard are ever-presents led by a strong forward line-up of Darren Bent of Charlton and Jermain Defoe of Spurs. Both also plumped for Morten Gamst Pederson of Blackburn whose brace sunk Man United at Old Trafford and racked up the fantasy league points in the process. Interestingly, Paul and Nita prefer an attacking formation with two strikers. None of this ‘boring style’ of 4-5-1 for them.
Playing the game couldn’t be easier. With a £100million burning a hole in your pocket, pick the right formation, get the most points on the board and you will be heading off for a luxury break as a manager of the month to a Marriott Hotel*. The manager who accumulates the most points over the course of the season will win a trip for two to any sporting event of their choice**.
