Sanctuary Housing Association has been selected as the prospective landlord for Sheffield’s first stock transfer tenants.

The association, which manages more than 36,000 homes in England and Scotland, was chosen as the prospective landlord for the properties on the Shiregreen estate following a council cabinet meeting last week.

It will make £100m of improvements over six years to the 2800 homes on the 1930s-built estate.

Sanctuary, which is based in Worcestershire, was picked from a shortlist of four organisations.

It will now begin consulting with residents to find out what improvements they want.

Tenants are likely to be balloted in June 2005 on the proposal to transfer their homes to the housing association.
