Showsec International has become the first private security company to be awarded the Football Stewarding Qualification (FSQ) which carries approval by The Football League, Football Association and the FA Premier League.
The FSQ scheme was launched last year to ensure standards of training and measure companies' effectiveness in stewarding and crowd management. It is now the benchmark for football authorities to examine recruiting, training and competence of football stewards. Leeds United is now one of the first clubs to receive the award for excellence in steward training, with Elland Road becoming the first club and stewarding company partnership to meet the new standards.
Funded by the Football Foundation, the training programme was developed by the Football Licensing Authority and Football Safety Officers' Association. Clive Warne, national verification manager for the Football Authority, said: "The football authorities are promoting the highest professional standards in stewards' training. Showsec International Ltd has led the way [by meeting] the high standards required by the scheme." Daan Terlingen, managing director of Showsec, said the company had invested considerable time and money in ensuring the company delivers the highest possible standards to clients.
