A fast and cheap shuttering system, Styro Stone permanent insulated formwork offers a high level of insulation in narrow walls – the concrete is 140mm thick and the insulation is 110mm thick – resulting in greater internal space or a reduction in a building's external dimensions.
Each Styro Stone consists of two vertical sheets of expanded polystyrene held apart by high-density plastic wall ties. It locks together with other Styro Stones, with the cavity between the sheets being pump-filled with concrete to form a continuous wall. The wall supports the structural load of roof and floors, while the shuttering provides thermal insulation. Reinforcing steel is usually required only for lintels.

In conventional shuttering, shutters are removed after the concrete has cured. With Styro Stone, the shutter is left in place, fixed to the concrete it holds.

The upper and lower edges of the Styro Stone sheets are castellated and rebated, and the vertical edges tongued or grooved, making it easy to slot them.
