Workers in the services and facilities sectors have until 31 January to apply for a Skillcard under the industry accreditation route – the initial “window of opportunity” that allows skilled personnel without formal qualifications to register with Skillcard.
After this date, employers will have to ensure their technicians and engineers without relevant qualifications register for an Experienced Worker card. This means they will have to register with the National or Scottish Vocational Qualification, and undertake and pay for an initial profiling with an assessor.
Malcolm Linsley, chairman of the HVCA Service and Facilities Group said “There are signs that clients are looking very carefully at the competence and qualifications of the people deployed by service providers on their premises. This is a trend that is set to continue.”
