Glass Age reader and glass engraver Steve Hyams’ has taken curtain walling to a new and finely detailed dimension for this recently completed commission for a Manchester lighting company.
The article to celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary, was a departure from Steve’s usual work of engraving designs on to trophies and sheet glass. The design represented the company premises with the three directors as glass figures (each approx 80mm tall for scale), standing in front of the building and each one holding in their arms one of the many lighting products that they supply.
The sculptures took six weeks to create from design approval and in all there were three models created, one for each director. The original request came from the staff to honour the business owners and all discussions were done in secret to surprise them at a special presentation.
Steve’s company Ourglass specialises in the design and creation of unusual commissions.
Although most of the requests are more modest this is one of the larger ones produced to date and required special attention to the detail of the building, inside and out.
