Computer giant Microsoft has awarded Citex Property and Facilities the outsourcing contract for services for its entire UK property portfolio, including its high-tech headquarters at Thames Valley Business Park in Reading.
Citex has been working closely with Microsoft since January this year, reviewing the delivery of core facilities services and providing management support to key offices in Reading, London and Manchester.

It is understood Citex will provide a full spectrum of facilities management services, including catering, audio-visual, security, mailroom and reception at all Microsoft's UK sites; Reading, London, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Manchester.

'The new contract will rationalise the delivery of a wide range of facilities services achieving a high standard of service and quality across the UK,' a statement said.

The exact details of the prime contract, including price and the length of the contract have not yet been finalised. The appointment commenced in July.

Citex said the company was pleased to have been awarded the contract, and said more details would be released when these are confirmed.

The UK subsidiary of Microsoft, the world's largest software provider, was formed in 1982 and currently employs more than 900 people.

Microsoft's UK operation has its headquarters at Thames Valley Park, Reading, Berkshire.

The business park was purpose built to house the software company.

In March last year the company took over a 48,000 sq ft site at 10 Great Pulteney Street, W1. They also took 6,500 sq ft at The Quorum in Cambridge.

In Europe, Citex has contracts with the BBC, BT, Cellnet,Compaq, Nokia and Orange.

The company also holds the facilities management contract for telecoms company Pacific Century Cyber Works in Hong Kong.
