Troubled registered social landlord Solon Wandsworth Housing Association will be taken over by another RSL, the Housing Corporation said on Wednesday.
A source said the quango was drawing up a shortlist of organisations to assume responsibility for the registered social landlord, which has been in supervision since November 2001.
The corporation would not confirm who was in the running but the list is likely to include Wandle, Hexagon, Hyde, Metropolitan and Family housing associations.
They all operate in south London, where Solon owns 1100 general needs and supported properties.
Dave Markham, development director for Wandle, said: “To my knowledge we have not been asked yet by the corporation. But we always consider merger offers, especially in our area – we’d be silly not to. ”
Rita Dattani, interim chief executive of Solon Wandsworth, said: “We were fully expecting this move and we and the tenants are entirely comfortable with it.
“We don’t know yet who will take us on, but we have told the corporation that whoever it is should be strong on tenant involvement and be able to offer tenants a greater choice of properties.”
A Corporation spokesman said: “We hope to complete the transfer process as soon as possible but these things do take quite a bit of time.”
