The humble sounder is the face of commercial and domestic security and a great advertising opportunity for the installer...
What a row!
The Inferno from Klaxon Signals is a powerful internal security sounder that effectively stops intruders in their tracks by generating an intolerable noise.
It cheats the intruder of the few minutes that could be used between alarm activation and arrival of security or police, protecting the secured area for that crucial period of time.
The spectrum of sound wave produced by the Inferno makes it extremely difficult to locate the source of the sound, ensuring that the intruder cannot readily locate the cause. Despite this, no long term damage is inflicted on the intruder.
When Security Installer bench tested the Inferno in our June 04 edition our testers said: “We would consider it well worth offering to customers, stressing its likely effect on intruders.”

Really resonating
The Reson8 bell box from ADE brings together aesthetics and functionality in a product designed to exceed the requirements of EN50131-4 Security Grade 2, Environmental Grade III.
It includes a fully integrated sounder/strobe, self activating cut-off timer and twin status indication. Dual anti-tamper operation means the circuitry will operate if either the cover is opened or the bell box is removed from the wall.
It has a 15dB siren with high visibility xenon flashes.
Twin internal LEDs indentify power supply and tamper status. It can be configured to reset itself after a preset time interval.
An additional test mode allows short alarm bursts.

One trip up ladder
Klaxon Signals has redesigned the XL Plus, part of its vertical sounder lid ‘n’ lens range (pictured above) to provide greater flexibility and performance.
Backplates fitted with an XL lid ‘n’ lens can now offer an optional SCB mode of operation, microprocessor and enclosed battery.
The company says installation is easy with a five second link which allows engineers to fit the units with only one trip up the ladder. IP55 rated, the foam resistant XL Plus also features a large print area for logos now measuring 140 x 260mm.
Adjustable sound allows the individual units to be identified in multiple unit installations.

For demanding installations
Suitable for the most demanding of residential and commercial applications, the Odyssey 3 from Texecom has a low profile 3mm polycarbonate construction that effectively shields the electronics and piezos.
Triple tamper protection of wall, lid and screw tampers, using high quality lever microswitches, maintains maximum security.
IP65 sealed electronics prevent the ingress of moisture, allowing the Odyssey 3 to perform in even the harshest environmental conditions.
Twin piezo sounders produce an exceptionally loud alarm, suitable for the most remote locations, Texecom reports.

Cover story...
Multibox from CQR is said to be a new concept for external sounders, offering a fully-featured self-contained central box, together with a choice of four different covers. Company logos can be designed and printed by CQR and, when finalised, covers will be delivered direct to the installer’s premises within 72 hours.
Conforming to EN 50131, the audible alarm sounds in the event of an electrical change in the connections to the panel. CQR now provides sounder and strobe trigger monitoring on all its bell boxes, giving customers the extra assurance that even with the system unset, the bell box will also indicate if either the sounder or strobe wires are cut or removed.
The only change in installation procedure is the fitting of two small resistors in the control panel prior to power up, and these are supplied with all sounders. This change is achieved without affecting any of the other installer-friendly features.
