The South-west needs a taskforce to find sites for housing if it is to combat the region’s housing crisis.
The recommendation came in a report from consultant DTZ Pieda that was billed as the region’s answer to economist Kate Barker’s report on housing supply. It was launched by her on Tuesday.

The report said the taskforce should bring together the four unitary authorities in the Avon area – Bath and North-east Somerset; Bristol; South Gloucestershire and North Somerset – and find sites for 3700 homes a year.

The region completes about 3550 homes a year, a shortfall of 1000 homes against its regional planning guidance target.

The report also suggested joint purchasing agreements between the Housing Corporation and local authorities in the area.
