Design advisory body CABE Space has launched a campaign for the better use of public land.

Wasted Space? will lobby councils, public agencies and community groups to put derelict land to good use.

Olympic champion Linford Christie, who is supporting the campaign, said of the patch of ground pictured: "This piece of land is the view from the grandstand at the Linford Christie Stadium in west London. It could so easily be turned into a useful part of the stadium."
