John Lowndes' letter, ‘What to do about water waste', touches a few heartfelt issues and raises the old chestnut of how much money we spend and how much energy we use while trying to save a particular resource.

His concern over waste is already being tackled on a number of fronts in system design - to which he alludes. However, waste is nearly eliminated if the resource is re-used. Therefore, rather than only looking at ways to waste less water down the drain, let's concentrate on the re-use of water both domestically and commercially.

As a water conservation solution to his shaving concerns, I suggest an electric shaver (recharged from a PV system) or failing that, cold water - which is known to give a closer shave!
