The Strategic Forum for Construction has introduced its new Accelerating Change report. The document sets out new targets for reforming the construction industry.
The follow up to Sir John Egan's Rethinking Construction report, sets out rigorous new targets for the construction industry in the next five years. Accelerating Change, from the Strategic Forum for Construction, was launched on 12 September and calls for 20% of construction projects by value to be undertaken by integrated teams and supply chains by the end of 2004. It also wants to see 20% of client activity embracing the principles of the Client's Charter by the same date. These figures will rise to 50% by the end of 2007.

Speaking at the launch, the Forum's outgoing chairman, Sir John Egan, said: "By continuously improving its performance through the use of integrated teams, the industry will become more successful. This will enable it to attract and retain the quality people it needs, which will enable it profitably to deliver products and services to clients."

The Forum wants to attract a quality workforce and has set the target of recruiting and retaining 300 000 qualified people by the end of 2006.

  • Peter Rogers succeeded Sir John Egan as chairman of the Strategic Forum as of 12 September.

Rogers, who is a director and co-founder of developer Stanhope, said the Forum would immediately focus its attention on achieving improvement in four key areas: site conditions; pre-planning; education; and people issues.

The administration of the Strategic Forum will also pass from the DTI to the Construction Industry Council.
