SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the electrotechnical, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and plumbing industries has been given government clearance to move to the next phase of its development.
The organisation is now working towards obtaining its SSC licence. Once licensed, SummitSkills will be responsible for the range of skills used by businesses operating in the sector. It will also work with employers to bring them added value and represent employer-driven views such as multi-skilling and the creation of a coherent careers structure.

Simon Bartley, chair of the SummitSkills Implementation Group, says: "At last employers will have an organisation that fights to ensure that their training concerns are addressed and their demands for a workforce trained to meet their requirements are progressed."

"This is a great step forward for the building services sector", says David Pollock, ECA director. "We believe that [SummitSkills] will allow the excellent work of NET to be taken forward in a way which is integrated with the training development of other building services trades."
