A gas explosion devastated a council sheltered housing block near Nottingham last Thursday.
An 87-year-old man, Henry Omert, was killed in the explosion, but two others were pulled from the debris of the block in West Bridgford and taken to the Queen's Medical Centre. They remain in a serious but stable condition.
Sixty other local people were unable to return to their homes. Rushcliffe council, owner of the block, organised temporary accommodation for those unable to stay with family or friends.
Although the exact cause of the explosion has not yet been officially declared, police say the smell of gas was reported to the emergency services shortly before the afternoon explosion took place. A fractured gas pipeline was later found at the site during the clean-up operation, indicating that the accident is likely to have been caused by a gas leak.
