M&E contracting firm T Clarke has reported active conditions in the services industry, with the demand in London and the South East said to be particularly strong.
On publication of its interim results for the six months to 30 June 2001, the company announced an increase in pre-tax profits of 63% to £3.4 million and a rise in turnover of 48% to £63.8 million from £43.1 million in 2000.

The company's net cash balances were stated as £12.8 million, and the earnings per share profit on ordinary activities after taxation were 18.26 pence.

Despite worries elsewhere in the industry over a potential recession, T Clarke is confident that the future remains buoyant. The chairman of T Clarke, Russell Race, commented: "An encouraging sign is that many of the projects that we are working on and winning extend well into 2002, and in some cases beyond."

He added that: "Although we will keep a close eye on the wider economy and our future workload, our principal markets show no sign of slowing down."
